About The Position
The Medical Social Worker at MidHudson Regional Hospital is a vital role that requires advanced knowledge of disease entities and their psychosocial impacts on patients and families. This position demands emotional and physical resilience, particularly when dealing with catastrophic illnesses, traumatic injuries, and medical anomalies. The Medical Social Worker must also possess a strong understanding of medical technology and treatment modalities to effectively support patients and their families during challenging times. In this role, the Medical Social Worker will conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments of patients and their families, gathering significant data to present to the interdisciplinary team. This collaborative approach ensures that treatment and aftercare plans are well-informed and tailored to the needs of each patient. The Medical Social Worker will provide psychosocial counseling through various modalities, addressing issues such as illness adjustment, treatment compliance, crisis intervention, bereavement, and substance abuse. This position also involves coordinating discharge planning in collaboration with team members, representing the hospital on community committees, and providing in-services to hospital staff and community organizations. Additionally, the Medical Social Worker will supervise and orient social work students and new staff, complete required documentation, and participate in continuing education and quality improvement programs. This role is essential in ensuring that patients receive holistic care that addresses both their medical and psychosocial needs, ultimately enhancing their quality of life and treatment outcomes.
