Duke Health Integrated Practice is seeking a dedicated Medical Secretary to join our team at Duke Orthopaedics of Knightdale. This role is pivotal in coordinating all peri-operative activities related to scheduling patients for surgery. The Medical Secretary will perform a variety of duties that encompass both clinical and administrative responsibilities, ensuring that patient care is handled efficiently and effectively. The ideal candidate will assist physicians with patient care while managing clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks to support the overall operation of the practice. In this position, the Medical Secretary will be responsible for reviewing surgical postings received for accuracy, ensuring that the right patient, right side, right procedure, and accurate diagnosis are confirmed prior to posting the case in our electronic health record system, Epic. The role requires meticulous attention to detail, as discrepancies or omitted data must be addressed with providers promptly. Additionally, the Medical Secretary will schedule and verify surgery dates, medical clearances, hospitalist appointments, and pre-operative appointments, communicating this information to patients both verbally and in writing. Maintaining accurate records of all surgical cases on Outlook calendars is essential, as this allows providers and staff to see available times for surgeries. Furthermore, obtaining authorization from insurance companies for surgical procedures and submitting daily billing sheets to physicians for coding surgeries are key responsibilities of this role. Other provider support functions may be assigned as needed, including appointment scheduling and clerical tasks. This position is a full-time role with a schedule of day shifts, Monday through Friday, and does not require working on weekends or holidays.
