About The Position

The Medical Secretary at Woodholme Gastroenterology performs a variety of secretarial functions to assist the physicians and practice administrator in the office setting. This role involves working in conjunction with other staff members to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the office. Responsibilities include placing, receiving, and screening telephone calls; determining the nature of calls and providing general information while referring more complex calls to other team members. The Medical Secretary greets, screens, and directs visitors, patients, and sales representatives, schedules appointments, maintains calendars, arranges meetings and conferences, and makes travel arrangements. Additionally, this position serves as a liaison to Human Resources and Payroll, may maintain payroll, and may transcribe from a Dictaphone. The Medical Secretary also services the needs of patients in the Medical Office, schedules patient appointments, performs pre-registration or registration by interviewing patients and obtaining relevant information such as personal demographics and health insurance information, and obtains necessary authorizations. The role may also involve assisting patients in the examination room when needed and adhering to all hospital infection control and safety policies.

Requirements

  • Formal working knowledge equivalent to an Associate's degree (2 years college).
  • 3 years of experience required.
  • High School / GED preferred.
