About The Position

The Medical Secretary, Band 3 position at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a full-time role within the Oncology team at Cheltenham General Hospital. This role is crucial in supporting the Outpatient Services in Oncology, requiring excellent organizational and communication skills to manage the workload of a small team of consultants and assist the wider secretarial teams. Requirements

  • Educated to GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in literacy and numeracy
  • Typing Qualification or demonstrable experience (minimum 40 wpm)
  • Good command and understanding of English, punctuation, and grammar
  • Good communication and social skills
  • Motivated and innovative
  • Computer literate in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook/Diary management
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Appropriate experience in a hospital or office environment

Responsibilities

  • Use of voice recognition software to transcribe and proofread dictated letters
  • Typing correspondence to patients, GPs, medical staff, and other required addressees following clinical attendance or other patient contacts as directed by the secretary supervisor
  • Typing detailed medical reports for legal use when necessary
  • Take and transcribe minutes as appropriate
  • Diary management, including making appointments, booking meeting dates and venues, organizing and distributing paperwork as required by the clinical team/supervisor
  • Supporting consultant staff by assisting with the production/transcription of medical staffing paperwork, such as references etc.
  • Liaising with external organizations for the benefit and progress of patient care, such as Social Services, other hospitals, etc.
  • Take ownership and responsibility for the workload of a team of Consultants, Doctors, and Nurses
