About The Position

The Department of Surgery at the University of Missouri is seeking dedicated medical scribes to join the Division of General Surgery. This part-time position is based in the Weight Management and Metabolic Institute, where the medical scribe will play a crucial role in facilitating patient flow and ensuring that each patient's medical record is accurate and complete. The medical scribe will accompany physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) into patient examination rooms, transcribing histories and physical exams while documenting the encounters in real-time. This role is essential for maintaining the quality of patient care and supporting the healthcare team in delivering effective services. The primary responsibilities of the medical scribe include accurately documenting the physician's or APP's interactions with patients, including listing diagnoses, symptoms, follow-up instructions, and prescriptions as dictated. The scribe will also transcribe patient orders for laboratory tests, radiology tests, and medications, ensuring that all information is recorded promptly and accurately. Additionally, the scribe will document any procedures performed by the physician or APP and assist with various tasks related to patient care, such as laboratory orders and patient referrals. This position requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently. The work schedule consists of four-hour consecutive shifts from Monday to Friday, providing flexibility while ensuring that the medical scribe can contribute effectively to the surgical team. Candidates should possess a high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience, along with at least six months of experience as a medical scribe or in a related role. Knowledge of medical terminology, proficiency in computer applications, and strong organizational skills are preferred qualifications that will enhance the candidate's ability to succeed in this role.
