About The Position

The Medical Screener - Reception Technician is responsible for greeting donors at the plasma collection center and conducting a series of registration procedures to verify donor suitability for the plasma pheresis process. In compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the technician assists qualified donors in completing the screening process, which includes assessing the self-administered health history, answering basic medical questions associated with the donation process, referring donors to medical staff when appropriate, and performing health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature. The technician performs a finger stick to obtain samples for hematocrit and total protein levels. Upon completion of the appropriate training, the technician may educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma, ensuring that all donor questions are answered timely, accurately, and professionally. The role may also involve registering applicants and transfer donors, answering the telephone, maintaining alertness to donor reactions, ensuring accurate recording of donor data, and maintaining a clean work environment. Bilingual skills may be required to meet business needs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three (3) months experience in a clerical or customer service related position, preferably in a medical or health provider environment.
  • Must be able to perform basic math calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Greet donors and conduct registration procedures to verify donor suitability.
  • Assist qualified donors in completing the screening process in compliance with SOPs.
  • Assess self-administered health history and answer basic medical questions.
  • Refer donors to medical staff when appropriate.
  • Perform health screening procedures such as blood pressure, pulse, weight, and temperature.
  • Perform finger stick to obtain samples for hematocrit and total protein levels.
  • Educate new donors on the use of therapeutic products made from donated plasma.
  • Register applicants and transfer donors based on training and operational needs.
  • Answer telephone calls and transfer to appropriate staff.
  • Maintain alertness to donor reactions during and after the pheresis process.
  • Notify Group Leader or Supervisor of donor flow issues.
  • Ensure accurate recording of donor data in the electronic donor information management system.
  • Understand policies and procedures associated with hyper immune programs.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and ensure sufficient operating supplies.
  • Follow all Health Safety & Environmental (HSE) and OSHA policies.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
  • May be cross-trained in other areas to meet business needs.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
