This part-time temporary position is located in Rocky Mount - Nash County. Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $57.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application) Average 20 hours per work week This part-time temporary position will be assigned to the Department of Transportation - DMV. The Medical Review Board Ophthalmologist will serve in a mission critical position. The Medical Review Unit is the arm of Customer Compliance Services that is responsible for gathering and evaluating medical data of licensed drivers or applicants for driver licenses in the State of North Carolina, who are currently suffering from a medical condition that could negatively impact their ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. There are currently over 170,000 citizens in the Medical Review Program that require follow-up at varying intervals. Over 21,000 reviews are conducted each year, and the Medical Review Board conducts approximately 600 in-person hearings each year. The employees in the Medical Review Unit perform a variety of duties. Those citizens whose driving privilege is restricted or cancelled have a legal right per NCGS 20-9 to appeal the Unit's decision by requesting a hearing before a board comprising of licensed medical professionals. Effective July 1, 2025, candidates now meet the minimum qualifications of a position if they have the minimum education and experience listed from the class specification.
