The Medical Records Technician is responsible for managing and processing patient health records in an outpatient clinic setting. This role involves ensuring exceptional customer service, accurate retrieval and processing of medical records, and maintaining the integrity of electronic health records. The position is temporary, with a possibility of becoming long-term, and requires attention to detail and the ability to work independently.

  • Supports and implements the organization's vision, mission, and values.
  • Determines priorities and methods for completing daily workload to ensure timely responsibilities.
  • Performs all job functions in a professional and courteous manner, including timely responses to phone calls and emails.
  • Fosters a culture of service excellence and accountability.
  • Examines patients' records and verifies patient identification, ensuring appropriate forms are included in the medical record.
  • Scans, indexes, and commits images in the electronic health record per protocol.
  • Performs quality checks of paperwork filed in paper medical charts against scanned documents.
  • Works with health center staff to box and prepare paper medical records for destruction or storage.
  • Responds to incoming telephone calls and forwards messages as required.
  • Prepares reports clearly and accurately, following through on all work in a timely manner.
  • Adjusts schedule based on departmental needs and performs duties with minimal supervision.
  • Identifies problems and opportunities for improving department services.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Experience with electronic health records and practice management systems required.
  • Familiarity with EPIC preferred.
  • Excellent telephone and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
  • Ability to work independently and set priorities under pressure.
  • 1 year of experience in medical records (preferred).
  • 1 year of experience with EPIC (preferred).
  • Competitive hourly pay ranging from $23 to $25.
  • Potential for long-term employment after the initial temporary assignment.
