About The Position

Requirements

• One year of general experience in clerical, office, or related work indicating ability to manage medical records and utilize office software.
• Experience with medical terminology and documentation in electronic health record systems such as GENESIS and HAIMS.
• Knowledge of regulatory rules and regulations regarding patient privacy and HIPAA compliance.
• A qualified typist with a typing speed of 40 words per minute with three or fewer errors.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in a medical treatment facility or similar healthcare environment.
• Familiarity with the Defense Health Agency's health information management systems.

Responsibilities

• Confirm eligibility status and requirements of patients to create appropriate inpatient encounters.
• Coordinate the collection and release of patient valuables and personal effects.
• Retrieve electronic health information from systems storing medical records as needed for direct inpatient care.
• Prepare, create, and electronically submit birth certificate applications and congratulatory birth correspondence, verifying the accuracy of documents.
• Use computer programs to perform admission and disposition functions.
• Utilize automated healthcare systems to research medical documents.
