About The Position

This position is pending award This position will support the US Department of Veterans Affairs Critical Staffing Program. The person in this position will represent International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. and provide services outlined below: Provide facility inpatient coding using International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) and International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Procedure Coding System (ICD-10-PCS) to ensure accurate Diagnosis-Related Group (DRG) assignment, compliant billing, and protection of Protected Health Information (PHI) under Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA) directives and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Maintain data integrity for clinical, statistical, and reimbursement objectives. Code facility inpatient encounters using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS and current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) to support accurate DRG assignment, statistics, and reimbursement Abstract, review, and validate the complete health record; determine correct principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures for routine, new, and unusual cases; perform concurrent coding when not final-coding discharges. Generate and manage queries to clinicians in Vista Integration Reporting and Revenue (VIRR) to resolve ambiguity or conflicts; close queries within 30 calendar days of discharge or service with documented impact. Sustain 95% or greater coding accuracy across ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS, and Evaluation and Management (E/M) when applicable; participate in audits and corrective actions. Process record coding within seven (7) calendar days of record availability with a target of greater than 95% compliance. Perform 100% data validation of assigned electronic encounters; provide required monthly quality assurance/quality improvement (QA/QI), accuracy, completeness, training, and corrective-action reports to the COR. Meet regularly with the COR and the CO to review timeliness, accuracy, completeness, and issue resolution; maintain open professional communication with stakeholders. Follow the ICD-10 Official Coding Guidelines, American Hospital Association (AHA) Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant, National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI), and Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) billing guidance; remain current with updates. Safeguard PHI and comply with HIPAA, the Privacy Act, VA/VHA policies, and The Joint Commission requirements. Complete required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies. Requirements

  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) or Certified Coding Specialist–Physician-based (CCS-P)
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA)
  • American Academy of Professional Coders Certified Professional Coder (CPC)
  • Minimum three (3) years of continuous coding experience in a facility with a patient population equal to or greater than the VA
  • DRGs, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, HCPCS
  • VA systems: Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA), Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS), and Vista Integration Reporting and Revenue (VIRR)
  • Use of Evaluation and Management (E/M) calculator when mandated
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English to effectively communicate
  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident Card is
