The Medical Records Coder at Archbold Medical Center is responsible for coding all outpatient and inpatient encounters to ensure proper reimbursement, compliance with federal regulations, and support for research initiatives. This role requires a strong understanding of medical terminology, coding systems, and the ability to work effectively in a team environment while maintaining professionalism under pressure.

  • Code all outpatient and inpatient encounters for reimbursement and compliance using ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding systems.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and decision-making abilities in coding tasks.
  • Utilize time appropriately to meet coding deadlines.
  • Maintain good interpersonal relations and communication skills with team members and other departments.
  • Read and interpret medical records and coding manuals consistently and accurately.
  • Accredited Record Technician (ART) certification or an Associate Degree in business administration or allied health field.
  • One year of experience in a hospital-based medical record department or knowledge of ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems.
  • Typing skills and some knowledge of computer technology are necessary.
  • Completion of a medical terminology and anatomy course.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems.
  • Additional certifications in coding or healthcare administration.
