About The Position
The Medical Records Clerk position is a part-time role based in Wilmington, Delaware, under the direct supervision of the Health Information Management Coordinator. The primary responsibility of the incumbent is to organize, oversee, and protect patient health information data. This role is highly visible within the healthcare setting, and the individual is expected to provide excellent customer service while maintaining high standards of professional conduct and work performance. The position requires strict adherence to HIPAA security standards, ensuring that patient records are handled with the utmost confidentiality and care. In this role, the Medical Records Clerk will compile, organize, maintain, and protect confidential medical records. The incumbent will ensure that health information systems comply with medical, legal, and ethical standards, entering and maintaining information in the electronic medical record (EMR) system. Monitoring the accuracy of information in the EMR and observing trends in audits and denials from payers are also key responsibilities. The clerk will facilitate access to medical information for providers and other healthcare staff, ensuring they can retrieve necessary data when needed. Additionally, the role includes providing dental medical records as legally requested and performing other duties as assigned. The performance criteria for this position include providing timely, efficient, and courteous responses to valid medical records requests from patients and other organizations, maintaining organized and secure health information systems, and offering feedback for the improvement of medical records tasks and processes. The Medical Records Clerk must be HIPAA certified and compliant, with 3-5 years of experience in a clinical or community resource setting.
