About The Position

The Medical Records Clerk - Float position at Sutter Health is responsible for providing clerical support across various roles during staff absences. Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent education/experience.
• 1-2 years recent experience in a hospital medical records department with competence in various clerical positions.
• Health care experience in a Medical Records Department.

Responsibilities

• Provides coverage for release of information following departmental HIPAA guidelines.
• Provides rotating backup coverage for telephones as assigned, answering phones within 3 rings and communicating clearly.
• Pulls charts as needed for committees, studies, and special requests, using a chart locator for each record removed from the file.
• Researches daily new medical record number assigned list for duplicate number assignment.
• Consolidates medical record numbers in the computer system and corrects paper records as required.
• Pulls incomplete records for physicians, ensuring timely availability of materials.
• Retrieves all records appearing on the incomplete list, maintaining a 95% pull rate.
• Attends weekly clinical conferences and interdisciplinary treatment planning meetings to communicate pertinent patient information.
• Provides coverage on census desk, assembly, analysis, and reanalysis, and transcription clerical coverage as needed.
• Performs audits and departmental quality reviews of clerical processes and participates in educational programs.
• Completes birth certificates using the Avis computer system and reviews hazardous forms annually.
