As a Medical Records Auditor, you will play a vital role in maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of patient medical records. In this role, you will support the Health Information Management (HIM) department by ensuring compliance with all federal and state regulations, accreditation standards, and organizational policies. You will monitor documentation accuracy, review coding practices, and support regulatory compliance efforts, helping ensure high-quality patient care and reliable medical record management. Your work will directly contribute to maintaining compliance with The Joint Commission, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and applicable state requirements. If you are organized, analytical, and committed to maintaining excellence in medical records compliance, we invite you to join our dedicated HIM team Assist in maintaining medical records in accordance with regulatory and licensing standards. Monitor the accuracy and proper maintenance of patient medical records. Ensure compliance with state regulations, accreditation standards, and Medical Staff Bylaws. Maintain confidentiality and ensure records are released only to authorized individuals. Educate staff on confidentiality policies related to medical records. Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding medical records. Assist with subpoenas and legal requests pertaining to patient records. Monitor coding of discharged patient charts and abstract required patient information. Prepare statistical reports as requested by administration. Coordinate preparation and revisions of medical record forms to meet regulatory requirements. Submit forms to the Health Information Management Records Committee for review. Participate in committee meetings and performance improvement activities. Assist in data abstraction and analysis for patient care evaluation studies. Monitor transcription services to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Remain current on laws and regulations related to Health Information Management. Support facility-wide quality and performance improvement initiatives. Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements. Attend mandatory trainings and staff development activities. Your Experience Matters What we’re looking for: Education Degree in Health Information Management, Medical Records Administration, or related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience Prior experience in Health Information Management preferred Thorough knowledge of medical records coding and medical terminology required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to medical records management. Understanding of confidentiality standards and medical record release procedures. Proficiency in computer systems and healthcare documentation software. Strong organizational and prioritization skills. Effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment. Ability to work collaboratively with staff and leadership. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
