Requirements

  • Requires an Associate's Degree
  • Minimum two (2) years of related experience
  • A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered
  • Must obtain Basic Code Enforcement Officer Certification within two (2) years of hire
  • CJIS Security and Awareness Level 1 certification within one (1) year of hire
  • A valid driver's license is required
  • Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Responsibilities

  • Investigate and enforce the adopted International Property Maintenance Code, City Code of Ordinances, City Zoning Ordinances, Unified Development Code, etc.
  • Investigate property maintenance violations such as tall weeds, accumulation of litter and solid waste, open storage of junked vehicles, etc.
  • Prepare building surveys and cases for submission to Building Standards Board and enforce the order of the board.
  • Investigate illegal signs, zoning and building permit violations throughout the City.
  • Prepare building surveys and cases to be submitted at the Building Standards Board hearing, then enforce the orders of the Board.
  • Communicate daily with citizens to educate property owners, tenants and other responsible parties on expectations to achieve compliance with applicable Codes and Laws.
  • Make direct contact with violators and complainants to exhaust all efforts to assist with the resolution of blighted conditions throughout the City.
  • Coordinate emergency collections of litter and solid waste from the right of way or illegal dumping sites.
  • Collaborate with other departments and agencies to resolve issues and violations beyond scope of Code Enforcement.
  • Plan daily work load of violation investigations, compliance inspections, contact visits with property owners, meetings or appointments with internal and external customers and checking workmanship quality of abatement contractors.
  • Ensure 'Due Process' of law has been served by notifying all interested partied of property violations.
  • Document all conversations and correspondence pertaining to investigations.
  • Facilitate violation prevention through participation in public outreach events and community meetings to inform and educate citizens regarding property maintenance, proper disposal of litter and solid waste and other violations related to the health, safety, and quality of life within the community.
  • Investigate chronically blighted properties in partnership with the Interdepartmental Nuisance Abatement Taskforce (INAT) to bring long term resolution through alternative legal injunctions.
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
