About The Position

The Medical Receptionist is responsible for providing exceptional patient services while ensuring smooth patient flow and effective communication regarding appointment statuses. This role is part of a collaborative team within a medical office consisting of six doctors and sixteen employees, fostering a supportive work environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • Fluency in English; bilingual preferred but not required
  • 1 year experience in a medical office
  • Excellent spelling ability
  • Experience maintaining patient confidentiality
  • Strong professional interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated respect for staff and patients
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Team-oriented
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong organization with attention to detail
  • Computer literacy

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with medical terminology
  • Typing experience of 2 years

Responsibilities

  • Scheduling appointments for ocular examinations, surgeries, and consultations
  • Pulling, sorting, and organizing patient charts
  • Checking in patients and ensuring their demographics and required documents are up-to-date
  • Educating patients on insurance copays, deductibles, and benefits
  • Responding to faxes, emails, and phone calls in a timely manner
  • Preparing for the next day's appointments by pulling charts, confirming appointment times, and printing superbills
  • Collecting copayments and balances due for services rendered
  • Ensuring contact lens orders are ready for patients
  • Maintaining a tidy and fully stocked office space
  • Performing cleaning duties including restroom spot cleans and garbage disposal
  • Completing other administrative tasks as assigned by doctors
  • Learning the preferences of each physician and accommodating patient needs during exams
  • Monitoring examination room conditions and ensuring adequate supplies are stocked
  • Notifying physicians of changes to the daily schedule, especially emergencies
  • Performing other tasks as required
  • Possibility to learn and transition to Ophthalmic Technician with growth in responsibilities and pay
