The Medical Radiographer-MRI is responsible for reading and interpreting requests and instructions from physicians regarding MRI examination techniques. This role involves determining the body regions and projections to be undertaken, greeting patients, explaining procedures, and reassuring anxious or distressed patients. The radiographer will guide and position patients before and during examinations to obtain the required views. Operating MRI equipment involves setting controls and making necessary adjustments according to guidelines and standard procedures as directed by physicians to procure the required images. The position includes receiving general technical supervision from the Senior MRI Technologist, which encompasses orientation to the facility and equipment, advice on procedures, and spot-checks of overall performance to assess effectiveness. Additional responsibilities include supervising junior and student technologists, ensuring quality control of MRI examinations, and maintaining clinical competencies of staff. The radiographer will also coordinate and direct patient flow to various scan rooms, review patient schedules, and report any potential or current equipment malfunctions to the appropriate service personnel or supervisor. Training radiographic students in the use and maintenance of radiographic equipment is also a key aspect of this role. Efficient, ethical, and courteous interaction with patients, personnel, and visitors is essential.
