About The Position

Under management within physics division and documented requirements of Radiation Oncology Physics Residency Program, participates in technical, radiation safety, and quality assurance aspects of radiation oncology department. Consults with clinical staff regarding all aspects of providing radiotherapy services.

Requirements

  • M.S. in Radiological Physics or equivalent.
  • CAMPEP accredited degree highly desirable.
  • Proof of completion of degree requirements (e.g., letter from program director) may serve temporarily as a substitute for official degree documentation.
  • Degree verification via diploma or copy of official transcripts with degree certified must be completed within four months of residency program.
  • Candidates in the process of obtaining certification in Radiation Oncology Physics by the ABR or CCPM are considered highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Completes all clinical and didactic training modules of residency program.
  • Participates in periodic examinations covering clinical training provided in each module.
  • Under appropriate supervision of physics group, calibrates and maintains radiation therapy equipment and oversees implementation and use of such equipment and computer systems.
  • Participates in routine quality assurance procedures.
  • Provides consultative service in radiation therapy to departmental personnel including but not limited to consultation with medical staff regarding physical aspects of radiotherapy treatment plans.
  • Provides technical information and advice in the areas of radiological physics and technology to support staff.
  • Participates in acceptance testing of all new treatment and simulation units.
  • Recommends the acquisition of new equipment or machines based on cost effectiveness data.
  • Develops and recommends specific treatment plans for patients with neoplastic disease to attending physicians based on a thorough review and analysis of radiation oncology patient data.
  • Ensures proper calibration of radiation producing machines and equipment.
  • Reviews patient treatment records in order to ensure that the prescribed physical parameters have been executed.
  • Ensures equipment is regularly tested and maintained properly in order to ensure the constancy of radiation delivered to the patient.
  • Participates in the development of techniques or apparatus for planning and treatment delivery.
  • Participates in the departmental radiation safety program.
  • Ensures equipment is in compliance with appropriate federal and state radiation safety regulations.
