About The Position

There is an opening for a Medical Physics Assistant Texas Oncology in the Gulf Coast Region, based in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate would be a recent CAMPEP medical physics program graduate who did not match with a residency program. The position encompasses a wide range of QA tasks, dosimetry tasks, radiopharmaceutical assistance, and clinical projects for 10 clinics in the area. The MPA would also work closely with two Medical Physics Residents. The position is designed to be mutually beneficial, providing the clinical teams with additional support and providing the MPA with valuable clinical experience to bolster their resume for the next residency cycle. There are several events occurring this year that would be valuable for an aspiring resident to see, including acceptance and commissioning of a new Varian Truebeam. This is a non-exempt position with a full benefits package and mileage reimbursement for travel between clinics.

Requirements

  • Completed relevant didactic education and attained practical clinical medical physics knowledge through specific training and appropriate demonstration of competency under the supervision of a QMP
  • Relevant didactic education may include a Bachelor's or higher college degree from an accredited college or university and/or certification in a related specialty such as radiation therapy, radiology, nuclear medicine, or health physics
  • Ability to identify digital imaging anatomy is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and other beam modifying devices
  • Assists in the production of molds, casts, and other immobilization devices
  • Under the direction and supervision of QMPs, performs patient and plan-specific quality assurance measurements and other routine quality assurance measurements for analysis by the QMPs
  • Under the direction and supervision of the RSO, receives, documents, and assays radioactive materials
  • Performs other radiation oncology quality assurance tasks, as approved by the Chief Medical Physicist and under the supervision of staff medical physicists
  • Imports CT, MRI, PET, and other imaging as necessary into computer software for treatment planning
  • Performs image fusion of imaging to simulation CT datasets
  • Interprets and delineates anatomy and anatomical positioning on various imaging modalities
  • Accurately documents treatment plan preparation and quality assurance tasks
  • Accurately codes for technical treatment planning and quality assurance tasks
  • Performs general computerized tasks, such as word processing, using spreadsheets, moving and altering files and directories and performing data backup
