About The Position

The University of Washington's Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a qualified Medical Physicist to join their team. This position is integral to the clinical mission of the department, which is known for its collaborative approach and state-of-the-art technology in radiation therapy. The successful candidate will work alongside a vibrant group of professionals, including 30 faculty medical physicists, 7 staff medical physicists, 30 physicians, 10 Advanced Practice Providers, and 14 residents in radiation oncology and medical physics. The Medical Physicist will report directly to the Director of Medical Physics in Radiation Oncology. The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Washington treats over 2,800 patients annually, utilizing a wide array of radiation oncology modalities. The department is unique in North America for having clinical particle beam delivery systems for both proton and neutron therapy. The Medical Physicist will play a crucial role in supporting the planning and delivery of radiotherapy, which includes external beam therapy, brachytherapy, treatment planning, dosimetry, treatment verification, and quality assurance. The position also involves staff training and consultations with other healthcare providers and patients. The Medical Physicist will be expected to engage in quality assurance of linear accelerators, imaging equipment, and brachytherapy equipment, as well as participate in brachytherapy procedures, plan and chart reviews, and routine clinical support. The role requires commissioning, maintaining, and improving equipment, all while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. The department emphasizes a commitment to research and education, encouraging the Medical Physicist to engage in these areas as well.
