Performs delivery of non-standard, standard and complicated treatment planning and techniques. Calibrates various therapy machines, measures instruments against national standards, and measures therapy beam data for treatment planning purposes. Leads and facilitates the troubleshooting process, works collaboratively with Medical Engineers. Operates and performs quality assurance (QA) on equipment as required. Performs radiation surveys of patients exposed to radioactive sources; regularly performs radiation surveys of treatment rooms. Enters and validates data in treatment planning systems. Assists with writing specifications and commissioning new therapy equipment and accessories; designs new techniques and ancillary equipment as required. Rapidly adopts and champions implementation of new technology and techniques; serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for staff, and conducts in-services as assigned. Assists in completion of competencies for other staff. Assists with ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulating and accrediting bodies. Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
