About The Position

The Medical Physicist Assistant assists Medical Physicists with their duties in the photon and proton radiation therapy clinic. Shift work is expected. Performs patient-specific radiation measurements and calculations, performs quality assurance tests of proton and photon beam characteristics and mechanical characteristics of therapy equipment under the supervision of a medical physicist, and participates in research and development projects in collaboration with Medical Physicists. Maintains appropriate proficiency in the use of radiation treatment machines, radiation measuring equipment, treatment planning computers, and related software. Assists with radiation surveys of treatment rooms as required by the clinic’s procedures and state and federal regulations, follows all medical physics quality assurance procedures and policies, and performs other duties as assigned. As required by the Supervisor, also participates in meetings, special task groups, and/or procedures in Radiation Oncology. The Medical Physicist Assistant must pass credentialing exams in each area of work after receiving training.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in physical science preferred
  • Excellent computer skills, technical problem solving skills, flexibility in work hours, and ability to work evening and overnight shifts
  • Ability to manage time, cooperate with others, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detailed measurements using high quality instrumentation
  • Proficiency with computer software and systems, including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Attention to detail, analytical skills, and accuracy
