About The Position

Join Our Team at Mercy Medical Center as a PRN Medical Office Specialist in our Cardiology Department! This role provides general Medical Assistant assistance to Cardiology physicians in an outpatient setting within the hospital or Hub Sites, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles appropriate to patients served. It involves 80%-90% back office support and some front office support for Cardiology Providers, including patient check-in, verifying insurance, co-pay collections, and scheduling visits, testing, and procedures. The position requires supporting the goals and mission of Mercy Medical Center, particularly the commitment to providing high-quality care, service, and value, and may require covering other sites within Mercy.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • A minimum of one year experience
  • Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to utilize one or more of the following: Microsoft Word, Power Point, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, Meditech (if applicable to position), Epic (if applicable to position), Performance Manager/NetLearning
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to work independently and possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to effectively communicate and deal tactfully with other personnel, visitors, patients, physicians, customers, and the general public.
  • Must be flexible, have personal integrity, and the ability to function effectively as a team with other employees.
  • Must be able to follow written and oral instructions.
  • May be required to travel to satellite offices.
  • Age Specific Care Provided For: Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics.

Nice To Haves

  • CPR-preferred
  • Preferred: experience in a medical office setting

Responsibilities

  • Provides general Medical Assistant assistance to Cardiology physicians in an outpatient setting within the hospital or Hub Sites.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development appropriate to the ages of patients served.
  • Demonstrates competency in applying these principles when providing individualized care to specific patients.
  • Provides Front Desk and back office support for Cardiology Providers (80%-90% back office with some front office support when needed).
  • Performs patient check-in.
  • Verifies insurance and requirements of that insurance i.e. referrals / authorizations.
  • Collects co-pays.
  • Schedules visits, testing and procedures as needed.
  • Supports the goals and mission of Mercy Medical Center, in particular the commitment to providing all patients easy access to high quality care, service and value.
  • May be required to cover other sites within Mercy.
