About The Position

The Medical Office Specialist for Physical Therapy at the University of Illinois Chicago is responsible for overseeing patient registration, insurance verification, and scheduling within the Department of Physical Therapy's Health Span Faculty practice. This role involves managing workflow for patient visits, counseling providers on insurance limits, and ensuring accurate patient file management. The specialist will also liaise with third-party billers and assist in maintaining up-to-date insurance information.

Requirements

• A combination of two years of college education in a medical or para-medical field or work experience comparable to that performed at the Medical Office Associate level.
• Coursework in nursing assistant, medical assistant, medical secretary, business, finance, computer science, public administration, or social science.

Responsibilities

• Completes insurance eligibility for all new office-based patients and maintains a database for all insurers.
• Assists PT providers and student workers in properly registering patients and gathering necessary insurance information.
• Schedules patients according to their specific insurance benefits.
• Keeps up to date on insurance charges for PT services and individual insurance providers' rates of reimbursement.
• Attends monthly managed care operation committee meetings and reports updates back to clinic admin and providers.
• Cross-checks all patient encounter forms for accuracy and completeness.
• Uploads encounters to Box for access by third-party billers and liaises with them regarding any issues or questions.
• Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.
