About The Position

The Medical Office Specialist provides patient care in accordance with established methods and techniques and conforms to recognized standards. This position is full-time and involves working in various departments including Internal Medicine, Surgery, Behavioral Health, Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Orthopedics, and Ophthalmology. Applicants are encouraged to indicate their department preferences in the application process.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Six (6) months of customer service in a professional office setting OR one (1) year or more in a service-related industry required.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from a Medical Office Specialist program is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Participate and maintain a culture consistent with the Service and Behavioral Standards document.
  • Greet patients for providers, answer the telephone, route calls/tasks, book appointments, verify patient insurance coverage, act as cashier for payments, and prepare for appointments.
  • Check patients in, verify current demographics and insurance coverage, and notify back-office staff of patient's arrival.
  • Maintain working knowledge of the referral process.
  • Use correct search criteria to eliminate duplicate documentation and enter information in the electronic medical record.
  • Contact the assistant or provider promptly when an acutely ill patient approaches the reception desk.
  • Direct patient flow and prepare patients for exams.
  • Proactively monitor and manage provider schedules for accuracy.
  • Participate in the cleaning of shared work areas.
  • Participate in the orientation and training of new employees.
  • May work at multiple sites as determined by department necessity.
