The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) is an integral member of the clinical care team, committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care. Under the supervision of licensed providers and the practice manager, the MOA performs clinical and support duties in accordance with NYS guidelines within a team-based, integrative care environment. The MOA supports efficient patient flow, patient safety, satisfaction, and assists with front-end duties as needed. In accordance with NYS regulations, MOAs may not diagnose, treat, triage, administer medications or injections, interpret test results, perform imaging, apply casts, suture, or assist in surgery.

Requirements

  • Completion of a NYS-accredited Medical Assistant program required.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Current BCLS certification (AHA, in-person only).
  • Proficiency in phlebotomy, EHR systems, aseptic technique, and clinical equipment.
  • Strong communication, organization, and multitasking skills.

Nice To Haves

  • National Medical Assistant certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms, equipment, supplies, and medications per protocol.
  • Greet, identify, and escort patients; explain role and procedures.
  • Collect and document patient data including vitals, medications, allergies, and chief complaints.
  • Perform pre-visit planning and identify care gaps.
  • Assist providers with in-office procedures and diagnostic testing (e.g., EKGs, lab collection).
  • Collect, process, and document laboratory specimens; perform CLIA-waived testing and quality controls.
  • Monitor EHR messages, health reminders, and delegated tasks per provider direction.
  • Provide age-appropriate patient education and coordinate referrals, testing, and prior authorizations.
  • Maintain infection control, safety, and aseptic technique standards at all times.
  • Participate in team huddles, meetings, and orientation of new staff.
  • Support efficient patient flow and clinical operations.
  • Operate and maintain clinical equipment; report maintenance issues.
  • Manage inventory, ordering, stocking, and expiration monitoring of supplies.
  • Ensure proper disposal of biohazard and infectious waste.
  • Assist with front-end duties including greeting patients, answering phones, and insurance verification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
