About The Position

Medical Assistant (MA) All Shifts • Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, LPN or Medical Provider and within the scope of the Medical Assistant duties. • He/she performs patient care activities focused on preparing the patient for the visit with the provider. • Clinical responsibilities may include such tasks are obtaining medical histories and related information and providing assistance during exams. • In addition, MAs demonstrate initiative, competency and enthusiasm for carrying out daily assignments, assisting and taking direction from other healthcare providers in the delivery of patient care and maintaining patient flow in conjunction with the Registered Nurse or LPN.

Requirements

  • Education: High school graduate or equivalency required. Graduate of NYS approved school/college for medical assistant studies.
  • Certificate from approved MA program
  • BLS
  • Work Experience: Minimum one year experience in ambulatory setting.
  • Knowledge/Skill Requirement: Ability to fully utilize MHHC’s electronic record systems, equipment and healthcare and billing systems relevant to this position. Proficient interpersonal relations and communicative skills. Basic computer skills.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Works as a team player. Excellent verbal and communication skills. MHHC customer service expectations and the overall Service Excellence standards in all facets of the job. Individual must be able to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Essential Mental Abilities: Decision making and problem solving
  • Essential Sensory Requirements: Able to see, hear, read and write English
  • Language Skills: English, Spanish (Bilingual) preferred. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and related notes. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to patients, customers and other employees of the organization.
  • Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers, fractions and decimals.
  • Working Conditions/ Physical Requirements: Physically demanding, high-stress environment
  • Occasional exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions
  • Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients
  • Manual and finger dexterity
  • Hand and eye coordination
  • Sitting, standing, and walking for extensive periods of time
  • Lifting and carrying items weighing up to 35 pounds
  • Corrected vision and hearing to within normal range
  • Frequently sitting at desk working on computer
