About The Position

The Medical Office Assistant at SUNY Upstate Medical University plays a crucial role in supporting physicians and other medical personnel in delivering high-quality patient care. This position involves a variety of clinical, laboratory, and clerical support activities within both inpatient and ambulatory service areas. The Medical Office Assistant is responsible for preparing patients for procedures and examinations, recording vital patient data, and performing standardized routine tests, including phlebotomy and patient specimen collection. Additionally, the role may require functioning as a patient safety companion or suicide watcher as assigned, ensuring the safety and well-being of patients during their care. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the Medical Office Assistant will engage in clerical activities such as greeting and directing patients, accessioning tests, producing reports, answering telephones, gathering and entering data, and scheduling appointments. The ideal candidate will have completed an approved Medical Assistant or Medical Office Assistant program or possess at least one year of experience directly related to the medical field.
