About The Position

The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) is responsible for assisting in the coordination and organization of various office duties including; appointments, screening patients for triage, updating patient information screen with current information, completing of forms, requesting and transferring charts, and answering multi-line telephones. Also helps to educate and support patients in the complex process of care related to cancer and GI issues.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years of medical, receptionist experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with basic office equipment and personal computer highly desirable.
  • Must be able to manage multiple tasks at the same time.
  • Possesses strong telephone skills.
  • Maintains a positive 'can-do' attitude.
  • Able to work overtime as the need arises.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a medical office or healthcare administration.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

  • Promptly and courteously answers incoming calls, takes messages or transfers the call as required. Assists scheduling diagnostic appointments, tests, authorizations, and referrals. Informs patient of co-payments, deposits, and referrals/authorization needed at time of appointment.
  • Identifies and verifies all information needed to process the encounters. Generates encounter forms for the next day service. Assists in the completion of office forms and documents (to include copying and faxing). Assist with ICD9 coding of visits.
  • Assists in the maintenance of medical records in the office (i.e. files documents in charts, requests and transfers charts, chart preparation, notates incoming lab results and patient’s next appointment date).
  • Coordinates all aspects of the care (office, hospital, etc.). Assist with scheduling of appointments and 'coaches' patients through the 'maze' of care. An advocate for the patient and their family members on the care provided. Coordinates the deliver of care with other MMG providers/offices and other referrals including off island.
  • Clinical Data Management: Assist physician/program with tracking of quality outcomes and practice trends. Reports the results as needed and works to improve the trends.
  • Organizes and assist with Outreach Screening Programs to expedite early detection of cancer and reduce barriers to care (i.e. cultural, financial and logistic).
  • All other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.
  • Demonstrates quality work, completes assignments on a timely basis, and makes decisions within limits of authority. Takes initiative in problem solving, maintains confidentiality of patient and company information, and interacts with patients, co-workers, and management in a courteous and respectful manner. Adheres to all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintains attendance standards consistent with company policy.

Benefits

  • Starting hourly rate of $19.07, based on experience.
