About The Position

As an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Correctional Medicine, you will play a crucial role in delivering comprehensive medical care to incarcerated individuals within a correctional facility. This position requires a compassionate approach and strong clinical skills, as you will be working in a secure environment that presents unique challenges. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals to ensure that high-quality healthcare services are provided to meet the diverse needs of the inmate population. Your responsibilities will include conducting thorough medical assessments, developing individualized treatment plans, and managing chronic diseases, all while adhering to the security protocols of the facility. In this role, you will conduct detailed medical assessments of inmates, which will involve physical examinations, reviewing medical histories, and evaluating symptoms to diagnose and treat various health conditions. You will also perform simple procedures such as laceration repair and incision and drainage (I&D) as needed. Developing treatment plans tailored to the medical conditions of inmates is essential, taking into account the constraints of the correctional environment and the resources available. Medication management is another critical aspect of your role, where you will prescribe medications and monitor compliance, side effects, and potential drug interactions. You will be expected to respond promptly to medical emergencies, initiating lifesaving interventions until higher-level medical care is available. Additionally, overseeing the management of chronic medical conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and HIV/AIDS will be part of your responsibilities to promote disease control and prevent complications. Collaboration with mental health professionals is vital to address the psychiatric needs of inmates, ensuring appropriate management of mental health conditions. You will also promote health education and preventive care measures to improve overall inmate health and reduce the risk of communicable diseases. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date medical records is essential, as is adhering to the facility's safety and security protocols. Upholding ethical standards and professionalism in all interactions with inmates and colleagues is expected, along with a commitment to continuous education and professional development in correctional medicine.
