About The Position

Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center is a 24-bed acute care critical access hospital serving the Florida Parishes region of Southeast Louisiana. We offer a wide range of services including general surgery and a 24-hour emergency department. The Medical Laboratory Technologist (PRN) position is located in the Pathology Department. Shift will be determined by the Department Manager. Possession of a current Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Specialist license plus one of the following: A bachelor's degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science; OR A bachelor's degree in a biological, physical, or chemical science plus one year of experience as a medical technologist. Requirements

  • Possession of a current Louisiana Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist or Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Specialist license plus one of the following:
  • A bachelor's degree in medical technology or clinical laboratory science; OR
  • A bachelor's degree in a biological, physical, or chemical science plus one year of experience as a medical technologist.

Responsibilities

  • Performs tests in the field of bacteriology which involve isolating, identifying, typing, and grouping bacteria and fungi present in body fluids, exudate, transudate, skin scrapings, autopsy, and surgical specimens.
  • Performs chemical tests and analyses of body fluids and other materials related to clinical medicine or research in the medical sciences, such as; chemical analyses of blood, urine, and spinal fluid.
  • Performs various hematological tests and examinations such as red blood cell counts, white blood cell counts, sickle cell tests, studies of red blood cell morphology, hemoglobin estimations, fragility tests, sedimentation rate, coagulation time, bleeding time, clot retraction time, and indices.
  • Prepares and examines feces and other materials for the identification of parasites and ova.
  • Performs agglutination, flocculation, complement fixation, fluorescent antibody, and other serological tests for the detection of disease status.
  • Assists in the teaching of laboratory technology students.
