Medical Laboratory Technologist – Thomas Jefferson University Hospital (Philadelphia, PA): Perform and monitor various medical laboratory analyses of patient specimens to provide accurate test results for confirming clinical diagnoses and treatment therapies. Duties include: conduct hematology and urinalysis tests such as complete blood counts, coagulation studies, and peripheral blood smear reviews; interpret laboratory results, identify abnormalities, and accurately report findings to healthcare providers for diagnostic and treatment planning; determine acceptability of patient specimens by performing visual inspections, including acceptable quality control (QC) recognition of abnormal results, and document unacceptable specimens according to hospital policy; communicate specimen requirements to appropriate personnel; report, document, and communicate critical values to appropriate personnel per hospital policy; adhere to established QC policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy and validity of laboratory results; document QC results in compliance with regulatory agencies; complete reports and maintain records of test results by entering and verifying data in the Laboratory Information System; operate analytical equipment for medical laboratory tests, including calibrating and maintaining devices and instruments; and handle blood products for transfusion, including storing and disposition of products.
