About The Position

The position involves performing a full range of laboratory tests to determine the presence, extent, or absence of disease and the accuracy of test results as authorized by the laboratory director. The individual must operate within their skill level as determined by education, training, or experience, and technical abilities. The role emphasizes promoting and providing compassionate and quality patient care.

Requirements

  • HHS Clinical Lab Scientist certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree or Associate in Applied Sciences with an emphasis in Medical Technology.
  • Registered by a national registry (AMT, ASCP) preferred.
  • 2 years experience preferred.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English with legible handwriting.
  • Advanced statistical concepts in Laboratory Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient results.
  • Maintain records demonstrating that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies and document all QC activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and instrument maintenance.
  • Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
  • Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either correct the problem or notify the appropriate supervisor.
  • Operate and maintain the clinical analyzers.
  • Monitor Quality Control of patient testing and generate and distribute patient test result forms.
  • Maintain records of Proficiency Testing physically and electronically showing that testing was performed.
  • Assess and verify the validity of patient test results through the evaluation of quality sample values prior to reporting patient results.
  • Order and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Participate in various committees, meetings, and in-service training as required.
  • Participate actively in quality improvement programs.
  • Perform preventive maintenance checks and report any problems to appropriate personnel.
  • Participate as an active member of the hospital and departmental team to support special projects and activities.
  • Maintain acceptable standards of patient treatment.
  • Perform laboratory results on patients in a timely and professional manner.
  • Accurately and promptly implement provider’s orders.
  • Input patient orders from requisitions received.
  • Procure, store, and route supplies.
  • Assist and perform all necessary laboratory tests.
  • Maintain a professional approach with confidential hospital and patient information and ensure a safe patient environment.
  • Keep work area clean and orderly.
  • Maintain certifications and continuing education requirements needed to perform job.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned, requested, or required.
