About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) role involves performing a full range of laboratory testing and reporting findings to physicians. AHA's MLT must meet personnel responsibilities per CLIA Sec. 493.1495, including following procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and maintaining records. They are also responsible for demonstrating proficiency testing, adhering to quality control policies, documenting activities, and performing calibrations and maintenance. The MLT must identify and correct problems affecting test performance or notify supervisors, documenting all corrective actions. They apply principles, theory, and techniques of laboratory medicine to produce and report appropriate results, perform and interpret Quality Control data, and participate in continuing education.

Requirements

• Associate Degree in biological science or chemistry required
• Completion of qualified medical laboratory science program or three years of acceptable clinical laboratory experience required

Nice To Haves

• ASCP or AMT certification preferred
• 2-4 years laboratory experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Produce and report appropriate laboratory results in hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, automated chemistry, and serology
• Perform, interpret, and record quality control data in all departments
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on instrumentation as prescribed in procedures.
• Call critical results
• Perform inventory and maintain department supplies
• Other tasks and projects as assigned
