JOB PURPOSE: Preform laboratory test in hematology, toxicology, microbiology, immunology, and chemistry. This position is responsible for collecting and processing patient samples and performing clinical laboratory analysis at all complexity levels for use in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Any position that has direct patient care is considered to be safety sensitive by Avem Health Partners’ standards. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO: Process laboratory specimens and report results in all areas of the clinical laboratory. Maintain laboratory records. Performs routine and stat laboratory assays. Performs qualitative urine analysis; color, clarity, specific gravity. Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors. Maintains quality results by running standards and controls; verifies equipment function through routine equipment maintenance and advanced troubleshooting; monitors quality control measures and protocols. Operates hematology, urinalysis and coagulation equipment; performing manual methods of differentials. Collect blood culture specimens properly, perform moderate complexity identification of organisms, and report to the caregiver. Ensures patients receive compatible blood/blood components by collecting, labeling, and processing properly for reference lab testing. Keep the laboratory sterile and organized. Maintain quality control practices in the laboratory. Follow laboratory policies and procedures. Additional duties as assigned.
