Requirements

(Hospital setting) Minimum of 2 years previous experience in clinical laboratory required
Associate of Science degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent education that meets personnel requirements for College of American Pathologists, and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments for testing performed
American Society for Clinical Pathology or equivalent medical laboratory technician qualifications
Limited use of independent judgement and interpretation under direction of a technologist, supervisor, or laboratory director (hospital laboratories)
Use of independent judgement and interpretation under direction of a team leader, manager, or lab director who may provide support remotely via phone or email (urgent care laboratories)
Strives for adult-adult relationships with colleagues, subordinates, and superiors
(Urgent care setting) Phlebotomy skills

Nice To Haves

(Hospital setting) Experience in a high complexity laboratory
(Urgent Care Setting) BLS certification within 30 days of hire
(Urgent care setting) Three years of experience in a high-complexity laboratory

Responsibilities

Processes orders and specimens, independently performs testing procedures, reports test results according to standard operating procedures, and performs other duties as required by department.
Demonstrates familiarity with and follows hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including those pertaining to safety and compliance.
Uses critical thinking principles in making decisions that lead to desired outcomes.
Correlates results with patient age and/or condition, recognizes deviation from expected results, and analyzes and corrects problems using standard operating procedures.
Operates instruments using established protocols and quality assurance check and performs preventive and corrective maintenance on instruments.
Performs, records, and analyzes quality control data, makes judgments concerning results, and takes appropriate action to maintain accuracy and precision.
Maintains current professional skills and technical competency as defined by laboratory competency policy.
Actively promotes a lean culture by performing duties to promote an understanding and consistent use of lean principals and processes.
Performs duties, makes decisions, takes actions, and continually strives to improve work processes using an awareness of how work performed is valued by the customer.
Performs phlebotomy on ages newborn to 21 years.
