About The Position

Position is assigned to the Central Prison Healthcare Complex in Raleigh, NC, and is responsible for performing all aspects of laboratory medicine in the departments of hematology, coagulation, serology, blood bank, microbiology, urinalysis, chemistry, and special chemistry as ordered by appropriate medical staff to include: Phlebotomy, specimen preparation and testing. Position is responsible for recollecting or assisting in the collections of blood, urine and tissue specimens for analysis using sophisticated lab equipment to look for bacteria, parasites and other microorganisms. Utilizes knowledge of basic phlebotomy in the collection of all patient blood samples to include technique, selection of specimen tubes based on tests ordered, handling of specimens in preparation for testing & knowledge of specimen acceptability. Accurately labels specimens, assists in collecting non-blood specimens and prepares blood & body fluid specimens for analysis. Performs required daily printing of reports for laboratory supervisor's review.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution or completion of a certified laboratory assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course from an accredited institution; or
  • High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of medical laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
