About The Position

Under the general direction of the Director of Laboratory, the Medical Laboratory Technician performs, evaluates and reports results on specimens received for analysis. This position performs complex chemical, biological, hematological, immunologic, microscopic and bacteriological tests, requiring significant analytical and independent judgment. Requirements

  • Associates Degree in related health sciences at the time of hire.
  • ASCP MLT certified or equivalent or board eligible.
  • Completed program of study at an accredited School of Medical Laboratory Sciences.
  • AHA BLS certified within 30 days of hire and maintain while employed.
  • Washington Department of Health Medical Assistant Phlebotomy license within 30 days of hire and maintained while employed.

Responsibilities

  • Performs analysis, evaluates and reports results of clinical specimens.
  • Ensures operation of analyzers, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
  • Performs quality control analysis and evaluates for validity.
  • Answers questions pertaining to laboratory testing.
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
  • Utilizes age related concepts when communicating with patients and families, and obtaining blood or body fluid samples for analysis.
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and protocols; following identification procedures.
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects the hospital by keeping information confidential.
  • Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Communicates effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Effectively uses a microscope.
