About The Position

The position is for a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) working on a PRN (as needed) basis with day shift hours. Typical shifts include 6:00am - 2:30pm, 6:30am - 3:00pm, 12:00pm - 8:30pm, and 2:30pm - 11:00pm, with overnight shifts as needed. The MLT will perform a variety of technical and general duties across one or more laboratory divisions. This includes routine and specialized specimen collection, processing, and testing procedures under appropriate supervision. The technician will operate laboratory instruments, perform quality control checks, and maintain related records. They will also make observations of materials from cultures, identify bacterial colonies, and perform blood grouping and compatibility testing. Additionally, the MLT will conduct coagulation testing and chemical/immunological tests on blood and body fluids, while entering and retrieving data from established computer files.

Requirements

• Associates Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or completion of MLT program.
• 1 year of relevant work experience.
• Certified Medical Laboratory Technician - ASCP or AMT upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and/or specialized specimen collection, processing, and testing procedures with supervision.
• Operate a variety of laboratory instruments and perform quality control and instrument check procedures.
• Make periodic observations of materials derived from cultures and identify types of bacterial colonies.
• Group or type blood of donors and recipients and determine compatibility of donor blood products with intended recipients.
• Count, describe morphology of, and perform studies on blood and other body fluid cells.
• Perform coagulation testing and chemical/immunological tests to identify and/or quantitate substances in blood and body fluids.
• Enter or retrieve data from established computer files.
