About The Position

The N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services provides services that promote and improve agriculture, agribusiness, and forests; protect consumers and businesses; and conserve farmland and natural resources for the prosperity of all North Carolinians. The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct ELISA and Agar Gel-Immunodiffusion diagnostic tests for the detection of Mycoplasma synoviae, Mycoplasma gallisepticum, and Avian Influenza. This position is responsible for providing test results to producers and veterinarians submitting specimens for evaluation; compiling and managing scientific data generated by serological testing; data entry into a computerized laboratory information system for reporting test results. This position performs quality control/assurance monitoring serological techniques; maintains inventory of reagents and consumables needed for diagnostic testing

Requirements

  • General knowledge of the variety of laboratory procedures applicable to serology or other related disciplines.
  • Ability to use laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to make accurate observations and written reports of findings.
  • Associate’s degree in medical technology from an appropriately accredited institution or completion of a certified laboratory assistant course in medical technology or a comparable course from an accredited institution; or High school or General Educational Development diploma and two years of medical laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
