About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. As an MLT, you will: Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department. Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity. Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems. Assist in orientation or training of new or less experienced employees or students. Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment. Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity. Works alternate shifts as required. Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology is required. Equivalent laboratory training and/or work experience with the US military (2 years) will meet the education requirement.
  • 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory as a Medical Laboratory Technician
  • Or 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory as Medical Laboratory Technician and certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP or other nationally recognized certifying agency
