About The Position

ECU Health Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the 974-bed flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the primary teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. ECU Health Medical Center has achieved Magnet designation twice and provides acute and intermediate care, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to a 29-county region that is home to more than 1.4 million people. The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs clinical laboratory tests by standard operating policies and procedures. Understands method principles, performs quality control & calibrations, performs preventive maintenance, and analyzes results as to accuracy, acceptability and critical limits. As an MLT, you will: Prepare patient specimens as required for laboratory testing and perform laboratory tests specific to department. Monitor test results to assure test quality and validity. Communicate test results in a timely manner. Enter and retrieve data from laboratory computer systems. Clean and maintain laboratory equipment and environment. Demonstrate appropriate, caring behavior in the workplace, treating patients, their families, visitors and staff with respect and dignity. Work alternate shifts as required. Perform other duties as assigned, including, but not limited to, phlebotomy.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or currently enrolled in an accredited Clinical Laboratory Science Program (BS) and have completed the specific laboratory rotation (e.g. Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Transfusion Services).
  • Equivalent laboratory training and/or work experience with the US military (2 years) will meet the education requirement.
