Medical Laboratory Supervisor MFM Health is seeking an experienced and hands-on Medical Laboratory Supervisor to lead daily laboratory operations across multiple sites, including point-of-care testing. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely test results, regulatory compliance, operational efficiency, and exceptional patient service. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree; applicable laboratory certifications preferred.
  • 3–5 years of supervisory or management experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, work independently, and problem-solve effectively.
  • Experience in medical or clinical laboratory environments required.
  • Commitment to adhering to company policies, safety standards, and clinical protocols.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Abbott Architect, Cepheid or Sysmex preferred but not required
  • Experience with Athena and Orchard preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Laboratory Operations Oversight
  • Supervise all daily testing activities, including specimen handling, processing, testing, and result reporting.
  • Serve as a hands-on Medical Lab Technologist.
  • Maintain efficient patient flow and ensure excellent customer service.
  • Staff Leadership & Workforce Management
  • Hire, train, and onboard new laboratory staff.
  • Ensure all staff meet required education, certification, and competency standards.
  • Conduct regular performance feedback, technical observations, and competency assessments.
  • Manage schedules, staffing levels, timesheets, attendance, and vacation records.
  • Promote clear communication through regular team meetings and collaboration with clinical teams.
  • Quality Assurance & Regulatory Compliance
  • Maintain and enforce all Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) programs.
  • Participate in proficiency testing, audits, troubleshooting, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain OSHA, HIPAA, state, and federal regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure laboratory documentation, policies, and procedures are current and accurate.
  • Equipment, Inventory & Vendor Management
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance, calibration, and repair with external vendors.
  • Oversee instrument implementation, reagent contracts, and supply inventory.
  • Monitor physical environment safety and initiate corrective actions when needed.
  • Information Systems & Workflow Optimization
  • Collaborate with IT, Orchard LIS, EHR teams, and reference labs to maintain test dictionaries, workflows, and system functionality.
  • Support enhancements and problem resolution for all lab-related software systems.
  • Administrative Duties & Problem Resolution
  • Maintain MSDS chemical files and other required lab documentation.
  • Conduct cost analyses and support the introduction of new tests and equipment.
  • Investigate and resolve administrative, clinical, or patient-related issues professionally.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support laboratory operations.
