About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist - Registered position at IHC Health Services, Inc. involves providing both technical and non-technical services in the laboratory service areas. The role requires performing routine and complex laboratory tests in the Flow Cytometry laboratory to deliver rapid and accurate test results to clinicians. The position necessitates a thorough understanding of medical laboratory science, including the theoretical and practical applications of knowledge in this field. Key responsibilities include operating and troubleshooting laboratory instruments, performing quality control procedures, and ensuring compliance with established lab standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent foreign education in Chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology.
  • 5 years of experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • Current American Society for Clinical Pathology Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP-MLS) Generalist certification.
  • Knowledge of Hematology and cell morphology.
  • Familiarity with relevant sections of the clinical laboratory including Hematology, Molecular, Immunology, and Serology.
  • Experience with laboratory information systems, databases, and spreadsheets.
  • Proficiency in Flow cytometer instrumentation and troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of College of American Pathologist proficiency testing.
  • Ability to interpret slide cell morphology and communicate with pathologists.

Responsibilities

  • Performs waived and highly complex analytic processes without direct supervision.
  • Operates, calibrates, and troubleshoots Flow Cytometry instruments.
  • Performs quality control (QC) procedures and maintains QC records.
  • Follows specimen collection, handling, transport, and recording procedures.
  • Processes data, validates assay accuracy, and enters data in the laboratory information system.
  • Identifies technical, instrumental, and/or physiologic causes of unexpected results.
  • Assists in evaluation and selection of new Flow Cytometry equipment.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates new testing procedures.
  • Evaluates and calculates QC statistics to assess efficacy of laboratory methods.
  • Monitors QC and participates in data collection for quality assurance indicators.
  • Develops solutions to problems based on assay principles and instrument performance.
  • Resolves and documents resolution of all QC results that fail lab criteria.
