Job Description: The Medical Laboratory Scientist oversees the efficient operation, analysis, and reporting of blood tests in the lab, specializing in clinical chemistry, hematology, and immunoassay testing. Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, quality control, quality assurance, calibration, SOP updates, and documentation. Instruments include the Beckman AU 480, DxH, and Access 2. Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
  • Certification through ASCP as an MLT or MLS is required and will be verified before employment.
  • Minimum of one-year relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with Clinical Laboratory experience required.
  • Ability to multi-task, self-motivation, reliability, and accountability in meeting timelines.
  • Excellent computer software, LIS, and data analysis/QC practice
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal & written.
  • Must demonstrate a high level of professionalism.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Performs testing with accuracy and ensures reporting through LIS into patient charts.
  • Centrifuge and aliquot specimen samples based on testing specifications.
  • Performs QC and QA.
  • Assists the manager in meeting department regulatory agency requirements (CAP, CLIA, etc.)
  • Calibrates, cleans, and performs controls on the Clinical Analyzer instrumentation as required for proper operation and maintenance of the instrument.
  • Maintains accurate logs and records as required for CLIA certification.
  • Keeps supplies fully stocked.
  • Organizes and accesses specimens/paperwork and keeps records of tests.
  • Responsible for all reagent preparation within the section
