About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs a variety of routine and advanced laboratory tests and procedures, ranging from waived to high complexity testing, within one or more sections of the Clinical Laboratory. This role involves the professional application of the principles, theories, and techniques of medical technology to produce reliable test results that assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment. CarolinaEast Health System is a 350-bed medical center providing high quality, compassionate care across the Coastal Carolina region, with a comprehensive range of inpatient and outpatient services and over 3,200 team members. The system operates physician practices across various specialties in four counties and fosters a culture of excellence. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
  • Registered or eligible for registration through a nationally recognized certification agency (for those holding a Bachelor’s degree)
  • Able to perform complex analyses, which require a defined network of steps and variables
  • In-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments and their interrelationships
  • Able to recognize problems, identify the cause (technical or instrumental), create alternatives and determine solutions
  • Communication skills in translating facts and ideas to a variety of persons, both within and outside the laboratory

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of routine and advanced laboratory tests and procedures ranging from waived to high complexity testing, in one or more sections of the Clinical Laboratory
  • Professional application of the principles, theories and techniques of medical technology are used to produce reliable test results that aid the physician in diagnosis and treatment
  • Be responsible for own work and decisions and be able to supervise and teach others
  • Evaluate procedures, equipment and people (peers, students and subordinates)
  • Work independently when necessary
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care in his/her assigned department
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status
  • Interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, providing the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures
  • Deliver outstanding customer service that upholds CarolinaEast's Standards of Excellence
