About The Position

Medical Lab Scientist UnityPoint - Allen Hospital Shift: Full-Time ; 1230PM – 11 PM, 11 AM – 930 PM; fill-in nights; Holiday & weekend rotation Potential Sign On Bonus: $5,000.00 paid over 1 year The Medical Laboratory Scientist position is responsible for performing laboratory tests and analyses in the hematology, blood bank, special chemistry, chemistry and microbiology departments in the laboratory. The Medical Laboratory Scientist collects and processes patient specimens within the laboratory and is responsible for quality control and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Associate must present record of certification to the Laboratory Director within 1 year of employment and/or within 90 days of expiration of MLS certification. Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology degree from an accredited institution or Qualify as Testing Personnel under Federal Register Sec 493.1489(b)(2) & General Supervisor under Federal Register Sec 493.1461
  • Licensure/Certification: Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.
  • MT (ASCP), MLS(ASCP) (non regulatory)
  • Other: Must be able to read, write and speak English
  • Must possess skilled computer basis and knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email and web browser

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine lab testing in hematology, blood bank, special chemistry, chemistry and microbiology departments following proper laboratory procedure and follow up of critical lab values
  • Follows regulatory standards that pertain to the laboratory
  • Performs and verifies quality control and instrument maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Collects, receives and processes laboratory samples and send outs following proper laboratory procedures
  • Assists in teaching students and new employees, principles and procedures of laboratory testing
