About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist performs laboratory analyses, evaluates laboratory results and reports results. Recognizes and solves basic laboratory problems, supervises other laboratorians and assists in maintenance of laboratory systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor#s degree in Medical Laboratory Science OR documented equivalent education and training per ASCP Board Of Certification alternate routes for certification
  • ASCP certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) within twelve (12) months of hire into this position. Those hired without valid certification are encouraged to take the first available examination after their date of hire and pass this certifying exam within three (3) consecutive administrations of the exam within twelve (12) months of hire into position.
  • BLS Certification with a designation of either BLS Provider or Healthcare Provider from either the American Heart Association or American Red Cross or Military Training Network within ninety (90) days of hire into position.
  • Knowledge of lab safety practices
  • knowledge of all lab departments state of the art policies and procedures
  • knowledge of general lab test results and correlation with physiological condition
  • ability to maintain and repair instrumentation and equipment
  • ability to understand and follow complex oral and written communication
  • extensive ability to perform duties accurately and#efficiently while often under stress
  • ability to organize work and meet deadlines
  • ability to be technically adept in all departments of the laboratory
  • ability to be rigidly accurate in the identification and reporting of numbers, names and results.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports, correspondence, or procedures.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one, small group situations or before groups of customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw or interpret bar graphs to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to see, hear, speak, bend, reach and lift up to thirty-five (35) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and ability to focus.
