Requirements

  • Medical Lab Technician: Associate's degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited institution with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science, with 6 months of clinical laboratory experience OR Equivalent education and experience as defined by CLIA '88 for individuals performing high complexity testing.
  • Medical Lab Scientist: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of a CAHEA accredited Medical Technology program OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification OR Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university with a major in biological, chemical, physical, or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory

  • Minimum 1 year's experience in a hospital laboratory preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.
  • Prefer 1 year of experience in a hospital laboratory.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and laboratory information systems preferred.
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) (ASCP) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • New York License required for NY locations.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain professional and courteous communication with all laboratory clients and respond promptly to inquiries.
  • Adhere strictly to laboratory and hospital policies regarding procedures, quality control, safety, and compliance.
  • Accurately collect, process, and analyze specimens in an efficient manner.
  • Recognize and appropriately address critical or abnormal test results in accordance with established protocols.
  • Troubleshoot instrumentation and methodological issues, performing minor repairs as necessary.
  • Conduct routine quality control, preventive maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment.
  • Manage reagent usage and maintain adequate supply inventory.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and physiological factors affecting test outcomes.
  • Participate in test development, methodology evaluation, and equipment implementation.
  • Independently perform High Complexity Testing as defined by regulatory standards.
  • Assume temporary supervisory responsibilities as delegated.
  • Facilitate the training and orientation of new employees, students, and residents.
