About The Position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist Overnight position is centered on service excellence, focusing on patient care and relationships. The individual will perform a variety of laboratory tests, assist the Lead Medical Technologist in establishing and implementing new lab procedures and instrumentation, and serve as a reference for other laboratory personnel as authorized by the Laboratory Supervisor. Responsibilities include supporting laboratory safety policies, recognizing potential hazards, performing tests according to established procedures, and ensuring quality control protocols are followed. The role also involves troubleshooting instrument malfunctions, maintaining laboratory equipment, and assisting in the teaching of laboratory technician students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a related science from an accredited college or university.
  • At least 12 months of appropriate clinical education and 2 years previous experience in a specified area.
  • OR a two-year Associate Degree, appropriate clinical education, and HEW certification as a Medical Technologist plus 5 years experience in a specified area.
  • Certified as Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by National Certification Agency (NCA) and/or Medical Technologist (MT) by American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP).
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic leadership capabilities.
  • Good organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Support and conform to laboratory safety policies.
  • Recognize potential chemical and biological hazards and handle materials as per established protocol.
  • Perform a variety of tests according to established procedures.
  • Ensure established protocol for quality control is being followed.
  • Manifest technical competence in designated area and act as a resource for laboratory personnel.
  • Make sound independent decisions regarding troubleshooting and corrective actions.
  • Ensure equipment maintenance and instrument calibration is performed regularly.
  • Assist in evaluating new products and instrumentation.
  • Assist Lead Medical Technologist in verifying the accuracy of work performed.
  • Maintain awareness of current technical information related to designated area of responsibility.
  • Assist in teaching laboratory technician students.
